1. Your right to opt out

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), as well as similar state privacy laws, you have the right to direct Philosopher's Notes not to sell or share your personal information for purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising.

Under CPRA, “sale” means selling, renting, releasing, disclosing, disseminating, sharing, transferring, or otherwise communicating a consumer’s personal information to a third party in exchange for money or other valuable consideration.

Under CPRA, “sharing” means sharing personal information for purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising, whether or not for monetary or other consideration.

Philosopher's Notes is committed to respecting your privacy rights. If you wish to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, please follow the mechanisms described below.

2. How to opt out

You may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information through any of the following mechanisms:

Cookie Preference Center

Visit the cookie and preference center on Philosopher's Notes to opt out of non-essential cookies and technologies that facilitate the sale or sharing of personal information.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

If your browser or device supports Global Privacy Control, you can enable this signal to express your opt-out preference. Philosopher's Notes will detect and honor valid GPC signals automatically.

Contact Us Directly

You may also submit your request directly by completing our Opt-Out Request Form here.

You may submit an opt-out request by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “OptOut Request” and providing your name and email address associated with your Philosopher's Notes account (if any).

3. What happens when you opt out

When you opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information:

  • Non-essential cookies and tracking technologies that facilitate the sale or sharing of your personal information will be disabled or suppressed on the Philosopher's Notes website.
  • Your opt-out preference will be communicated to our advertising partners and service providers to prevent them from receiving or using your personal information for the purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Essential cookies that are necessary for the website to function (such as session management and security) will remain active and unaffected by your opt-out.
  • If you clear your browser cookies or use a different device, your opt-out preference will not persist unless it was saved via Global Privacy Control. You will need to opt out again on the new device or after clearing cookies, unless you are using GPC.

4. Authorized agents

You may authorize an agent to submit an opt-out request on your behalf. To do so, your authorized agent must provide:

  • A signed authorization document (such as a power of attorney) or other evidence of authorization.
  • Your agent’s contact information and your contact information.

Philosopher's Notes may require direct verification with you to confirm the agent’s authority, although the verification standard for opt-out requests is lighter than for other consumer requests. We may also require the agent to verify their own identity.

5. Verification

Philosopher's Notes does not require you to create an account or provide a full identity verification to submit an opt-out request. However, we may take reasonable anti-fraud steps to verify that an opt-out request is genuine and not the result of unauthorized access to your email or device.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your opt-out rights. This means we will not deny you goods or services, charge different prices, or provide different quality of service based solely on your decision to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
